Photos: SUV Drives Into Topeka Store, Narrowly Misses Boy

TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW)-- A vehicle that drove into a business Monday narrowly missed hitting a 7-year-old boy, according to police.

Emergency crews responded just after 11:30 a.m. to Mattress City, located at 2911 S. Topeka Boulevard. A Buick model SUV was inside the store after driving through the front window.

According to police the vehicle, driven by a woman in her 70s, accelerated, drove across an entry sidewalk, and drove into the store.

Three people. including a 7-year-old boy, were hit by flying debris. Debris may have included glass and bed frames, according to police on scene.

Corp. Lewis Cortez told 13 News that a 7-year-old boy was just 5 inches from the car as it entered the business.

A couple in their 50s received some injuries, not considered life-threatening.

The driver and three people hit by debris were taken to a local hospital for treatment. The driver was shaken-up, and being monitored by medical personnel.
