TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW)-- A woman is in critical condition after being struck by a truck Monday morning.
It happened at 6th and Orchard before 8 a.m., according to Shawnee County dispatchers.
According to a witness, a young woman was crossing the street and was struck by a truck. The impact sent her approximately 40 feet.
The woman was taken to an area hospital with "code red" injuries, considered critical and life-threatening.
The witness told 13 News that a crosswalk had previously existed at the intersection where the accident occurred. According to the witness, crosswalk signs haven't been replaced since road work began in the area.
6th street was shut down Monday as crews worked the scene.
