Patriot Outfitters Celebrates Grand Opening, Business Expansion

TOPEKA, Kansas (WIBW) -- A Kansas business that started out small, and now operates internationally, held the grand opening for its brand-new headquarters in St. Mary's.

They say their rapid growth isn't stopping and the new location will better help them serve those who serve the country.

Patriot Outfitters grew out of a website selling an intensive selection of tactical wear like boots, knives, gloves and more. The grand opening and ribbon cutting of its new corporate headquarters in St. Marys Friday morning attests to their mission of growth and customer service.

"The original retail store was in Fort Riley. Now we're in so many places we located the headquarters more central to where employees lived," Co-Owner and Partner Pete Isermann said. "We have 30 employees and continue to expand. We expect to offer more jobs in the area."

"I think it's important the commitment the company has made to Northeast Kansas," Executive Director of the Retail Group Fred Fletcher said.

Now the company has 26 stores nationwide, employing a total of 130 people.

Senator Jerry Moran and Congressman Tim Huelskamp showed their support.

"You very much commend the business men and women who create jobs for other people," Moran said. "This one is special because the product they sell and market is all related toward the well-being of those who serve our country. It brings this sense of patriotism together."

The warehouse located in the back of the headquarters services most of Patriot Outfitters' web sales. Their sales aren't doing too bad, either. Since January they've sold more than 30,000 combat boots store-wide.

The headquarters also has a retail store inside, but co-owners say there is more of a selection online, and they strive not to be a "cookie-cutter" type of store.

The retail store sells the tactical wear, as well as handguns, AR-15s, MP-5s, shotguns and more. Anyone wanting to purchase a gun doesn't need to have a license or permit. For long-guns, including the AR-15s, consumers must be 18 years or older, present a driver's license and be able to be cleared in a background check. Those wanting to buy a handgun must be 21 years and older, and meet the same criteria. The ammo doesn't have a magazine round limit.

Most of its customers are from the military branches, but anyone can buy online or from any of the retail stores.

"We really care about our soldiers. We know what they want, what they need, and we sell it to them," Fletcher said. "So we're very focused on our customers who are war fighters."

The store and headquarters are open in St. Mary's, 30 minutes northwest of Topeka.
