Late Night Chase Lands Two Boys In Jail

TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW-TV) Two boys are in police custody after leading officers on car chase late Monday night. Because they were both underage, authorities did not release their names or ages.

Topeka Police tell 13 News the chase started around 11:40 p.m. after an officer got out of his car during a traffic stop with a Chevrolet Impala in the 500 block of SE Branner.

The driver fled the scene and was chased by officers for 15 minutes before they were forced to stop their pursuit near 6th and Yorkshire. Officers successfully used a tire deflation device near 6th and Deer Creek, hitting at least one of the vehicle's tires.

Officers spotted the vehicle minutes later in the 300 block of SW Wanamaker and later found both the driver and passenger in the 6100 block of Southwest 4th.

The passenger was taken to juvenile intake and the driver was transported to the juvenile detention center for an outstanding warrant and charged with several traffic violations including aggravated endangering of a child and felony eluding.
