Rain heavy at times will move across northeast Kansas this afternoon and tonight that could lead to flooding. Severe storms are also possible through this evening with 60 mph wind gusts and hail up to the size of quarters.
A suspected car thief is in custody after a short police chase late Sunday night.
Around 11:40 p.m., officers tried to stop a stolen maroon 1991 Toyota truck near Morse and Central in Topeka.
The suspect led police through parts of North Topeka and then crashed into a tree in the 100 block of north Holman road.
After the wreck, Mark Jason Berwert, 40, of Topeka attempted to escape on foot.
He was later captured and taken to the hospital by AMR for accident related injuries. After being released from the hospital, Berwert was booked into the Department of Corrections.
Officials say the chase lasted about five minutes.
