Osage City Airport Improvements OK'd, Expansion Up In The Air

OSAGE CITY, Kan. (WIBW) - An airport expansion in Osage City is still up in the air.

Osage City city council members voted Tuesday night to accept state grant funding for projects that include replacing a hangar and repaving and marking the runway.

However, some residents hoped the state grant discussion would spur members to discuss a multi-million dollar expansion plan they say voters approved years ago. The project would utilize funding from the Federal Aviation Administration to increase the length of the runway by nearly 2,000 feet. The additional length would allow business-sized aircraft, like Learjets, to land at the airport.

Residents who support the expansion say the additions would be a positive for the city. They say improving the airport infrastructure will help attract businesses to the area. Residents also say they are frustrated that the current city council seems to be stalling on moving forward with the project.

Council members did not address the expansion question Tuesday night. They also declined to speak with 13 News following the meeting.
