Topeka Church Leader Charged With Child Sex Crimes

Topeka, Kan. (WIBW) - A candidate for ordained pastor at Faith Lutheran
Church in Topeka has been charged with sex crimes against at least one child.

Hugh Cranford was charged Wednesday with two counts of aggravated indecent liberties with a child, lewd fondling.

According to Cranford's Facebook page, he was a youth minister in the church, and a vicar, comparable to that of a deacon.

According to a letter sent to church patrons, the crimes did not take place at Topeka Lutheran School or at Faith Lutheran Church, or at any school or church sponsored functions.

The seminary in St. Louis suspended Cranford's vicarage in June, on allegations of inappropriate conduct.

Cranford is no longer allowed access to the church.

We're told Cranford is out of the state of Kansas and his arrest is pending.
