TOPEKA, Kansas (WIBW) -- Monday Topeka Police identified the pedestrian killed Sunday along US-75 North of Topeka as Elmer Bailey, 78, of Topeka.

The name of the driver involved was not released.

Topeka Police reported Sunday morning that a person was fatally struck by multiple vehicles on northbound US-75 Highway.

Shawnee County Dispatch said the accident was reported around 6:11 a.m. just north of Lower Silver Lake Road.

Authorities don't know why Bailey was walking along the highway.

Northbound US-75 at Lower Silver Lake Road was shut down for about four hours as crews continue to work the scene and reconstruct the accident. The highway opened back up around 11 a.m.

All traffic was diverted to eastbound Silver Lake Road. The Kansas Department of Transportation was assisting with the detour.

The motorist who struck Bailey called Topeka Police and all witnesses stayed on the scene.

The incident remains under investigation.
