LAWRENCE, Kan. (WIBW) - Investigators still don't know why a truck driver slammed into a turnpike toll booth over the weekend.
Kansas Turnpike Troopers Dispatchers told 13 News at around 3 a.m. a semi-trailer crashed into a toll booth on the westbound lane of I-70 near milepost 217 outside of Lawrence.
The driver was identified today as 30-year-old Sergiy Angelchev of Aurora, Colorado.
The Kansas Highway Patrol says it does not appear he braked or took any other evasive action before his big rig collided with the westbound toll ticket booth at Bonner Springs.
It's an automated dispenser, so no turnpike attendant was inside, but Angelchev died.
A passenger in his truck, 25-year-old Roman Ilyaich man also from Aurora was injured.
