HAYSVILLE, Kan. (KAKE) — Police have identified the man shot and killed by an officer during a domestic dispute in Haysville Tuesday.

Around 10:45 a.m. Tuesday, officers were dispatched to Village Green Apartments in the 400 block of West Sarah Lane for a domestic disturbance.

When police arrived, they found that a man had barricaded himself in a bedroom, and was physically restraining a woman. Three officers entered the room and found the man holding a woman at knife-point. She was also bleeding from what appeared to be knife wounds.

They repeatedly ordered the man to drop the knife, but police say he continued to threaten the woman and officers with the knife. An officer then fired one shot at the suspect.

Chad Leichardt, 40, was pronounced dead at the scene. The woman was transported to an area hospital and has since been treated and released.

The officers involved were placed on paid administrative leave, per policy, pending the investigation.

Police had previously responded to at least two other calls at that apartment for domestic disturbances.

The Sedgwick County Sheriff and District Attorney, along with the Kansas Bureau of Investigation are looking into the shooting.
