LAWRENCE, Kan. (WIBW) – The Lawrence Police Dept. identified its two officers who involved in a shooting early Sunday morning. The name of the person who was shot and his condition has not been released. He has not been arrested nor charged, noted police.
Officers Skyler Richardson and Terry Haak are both on paid administrative leave pending the results of an investigation, as per department policy, according to a police spokesperson. The Douglas Co. Sheriff's Office was immediately asked to join the investigation and, on Monday, they requested assistance from the Johnson Co. Sheriff's Office.
On Sunday, at approximately 12:30am, Lawrence Police officers responded to reports of shots fired at a home near the intersection of Harvard Road and Kasold Drive. The caller told them the shots may have come from a home south of the intersection.
When Officer Richardson arrived, he was directed to 1103 Kasold Drive, where a disturbance was ongoing. He made contact with the people inside the home -- one of whom reportedly had a gun.
During the encounter, Richardson fired his gun and hit the armed man, police said. Officer Haak entered the house right afterwards.
Medical personnel were summoned immediately and the shooting victim was taken from the scene by ambulance. He was then taken via helicopter to a Kansas City hospital.
