(WIBW)-- Developers are hoping a 3.2- million dollar project will give a busy stretch of road north of Topeka a more urbanized look.
Monday night, public works officials outlined the timeline for a project to widen Northwest 46th Street to three lanes and add single lane roundabouts at the Rochester and Topeka Boulevard intersections.
46th will be closed March to July from the soldier township fire station to Topeka Boulevard.
When that's done, the second phase will close 46th from the fire station to Rochester road through November.
While the added sidewalks curb and gutter enhancements will give the area a modernized look it will also add safety.
Half the the project will be funded through sales tax dollars and the other half from the county's general fund.
