Multi-County Semi Chase Injures Four

(From Release) -- On Friday, October 7, 2011 after midnight a Semi Truck was being pursued by Deputies of the Wabaunsee County Sheriff’s Office, North on K-99.

The semi entered into Pottawatomie County at Wamego. The truck, had allegedly rammed and chased a pickup while in Shawnee County as well as other driving complaints.

The Semi, a blue Kenworth went North through Wamego at a high rate of speed and continued on highway 99 to just North of the 99 Louisville Road intersection.

The truck at this point rammed a car that had pulled off of the road, then chased the car in the yard of a private residence.

With Deputies from Wabaunsee County, Pottawatomie County, and the Wamego Police Department in pursuit, the truck became stuck and was stopped. The driver of the vehicle was taken into custody.

4 adult victims 3 male and 1 female were transported from the scene to a local hospital for injuries.

The driver, Robert Smith of Salina Kansas, a 55 year old male was arrested at the scene and taken to the Pottawatomie County Jail. Smith was arrested for Attempted Murder, Aggravated Battery, Aggravated Assault of Law Enforcement Officer and criminal Damage to Property. Bond has not been set at this time.
