Motorcycle Rider Fighting For Life After Wreck Near Airport

TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) -- A 32 year-old Carbondale man is fighting for his life after a motorcycle wreck near Forbes Field late Friday morning, according to the Shawnee Co. Sheriff's Office.

Christopher Cook was heading north on SW Topeka Blvd. when his Buell motorcycle hit a Ford F-150 trying to turn left onto University Blvd. around 11:15 a.m. Cook was thrown from the bike and suffered several injuries, including ones to his head, the Sheriff's Office said. He was wearing a helmet.

Cook was taken first to Topeka Hospital and then to KUMC in Kansas City where he remains in critical condition.

The driver of the pickup was not injured.

The wreck closed the intersection for about four hours while authorities invetigated.
