GREAT BEND, Kan- A Reno County jail deputy and his wife have died following a motorcycle crash Saturday afternoon in Great Bend.

Dispatchers say a truck pulling a trailer with a lawn mower on it going eastbound met with two motorcyclists going westbound in the 5900 block of 10th Street.

The trailer detached, crossing the centerline, hitting a motorcycle ridden by Reno County Jail Deputy Shawn Schellinger and his wife Danielle.

The two suffered critical injuries and were flown to a Wichita hospital, where Danielle died later on Saturday. The Reno County Sheriff's Department said Shawn passed away on Sunday.

Another motorcyclist was believed to have laid down his bike to avoid the trailer and received minor injuries.

More details are expected on Monday.
