Motions Sealed In Leftwich Case

TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) - The court will be tight-lipped about information in the case against a man accused of kidnapping and killing a recent Seaman High School graduate.

Shawnee Co. Judge Cheryl Rios-Kingfisher granted a defense request Friday to seal all pretrial motions, responses and replies in the Dustin Leftwich case.

The 20-year old is charged with first degree murder and aggravated kidnapping in the May death of 18-year old Brenna Morgart. Prosecutors say he hit her with his vehicle in northwest Shawnee County, then moved her body to a field a few miles away.

He's also accused of a separate assault with his vehicle last summer.

While records are sealed, CJ Online reports hearings will remain open. The next hearing is set for next Thursday and involves testing of DNA evidence.
