TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) - A statewide search continued Monday for 22-year-old Lloyd Alan Wabaunsee, accused of killing Kevin Stanley in the home he rented.
Wabaunsee is said to idolize David Tiscanero, the man who killed two Topeka police officers last December 16.
Shawnee County Sheriff Herman Jones says that connection is troubling.
"[T]he two officers that were killed, when we see the support from the community that know that's wrong, we don't tolerate those types of things [and] you have someone that idolizes that... That brings up a red flag," Jones said.
Jones says there is a possibility Wabaunsee may be prone to more violence.
"If he idolizes that, is this something he could do as well?" Jones pondered. "It heightens our attention to the individual [...], but it also heightens the attention of the community as well," he said.
It's not the only connection Wabaunsee has to David Tiscareno.
A woman officers identified as Desiree Shopteese is reportedly with Wabaunsee as he tries to avoid capture.
Shopteese was listed as Tiscareno's fiancee in his obituary.
When Tiscareno shot and killed Corporal David Gogian and Officer Jeff Atherly at a Dillons parking lot, two women were with him in the car.
Jones would not comment on whether Shopteese was among them.
"I'm not at liberty to release those names right now," Jones said.
Tiscareno himself was killed by a KBI tactical response team.
Desiree Shopteese has a record in Shawnee County, mainly domestic issues, traffic violations and an eviction from a residence she shared with Tiscanero.
"A lot of this is just bringing the investigation together there, so we can present that to the District Attorney's office," Jones said.
Jones told 13 News he expects to release more information on the Mayetta fatal shooting this week, including whether the women in the vehicle at Dillons in December would be charged with any crimes.
Lloyd Wabaunsee is described as a Native American Male, 5'9" tall, weighing 180 lbs. He is believed to be driving a 1993 GMC pickup and in the company of Desiree Shopteese.
Authorities say Wabaunsee is armed and extremely dangerous.
Anyone with information on the Mayetta murder is asked to call their local law enforcement agency or the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office at (785) 364-2251.
