TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) - The big crowds that poured into a short-lived store in downtown Topeka translated into big bucks flowing into a revitalization project in the area.

Bret Spangler, site manager for Mars Chocolate North America Topeka plant, announced Monday morning that the Mars pop-up store raised $30,000 for the South Kansas Avenue improvement project. Mars donated proceeds from the "Made in Topeka" products sold at the store. It was located at 713 South Kansas Avenue and operated from March 28th to April 13th. The store was part of festivities celebrating the opening of the Topeka plant.

The amount announced Monday is in addition to the $200,000 Mars contributed to the Kansas Avenue redevelopment project last October.

Spangler said Mars is committed to supporting the communities in which they operate, which means ensuring their employees have a great place to live. In addition, he said ensuring their home communities have a great quality of life makes it easier to attract great employees.
