MANHATTAN, Kan. (WIBW) - Some good news out of Manhattan regarding the 4th of July festivities.
The Manhattan Fire Department responded to fewer fireworks related calls this year compared to last year.
There were nine fireworks related calls this year and no fire loss reported.
In 2012, 15 fire calls were received, including two structure fires with fire loss totaling $381,000.
One thing didn't change from year to year though -- the number of trash and dumpster fires. Because of this, the Manhattan Fire Department stresses the importance of throwing away your used fireworks properly.
