MANHATTAN, Kan. (WIBW) - College Avenue United Methodist Church broke ground Sunday on a $2.1 million expansion.

The new 8,800 square foot space, which is slated to be complete in nine months, will include a fellowship hall, kitchen, meeting rooms, and much more.

"Right now there’s no place for all of us to eat together in like a fellowship dinner," said Reverend Larry Fry. "This will allow that. This way we’ll have an elevator, we’ll have better access to a playground, we’ll have a bigger entry way, a new kitchen and classrooms. So we’re excited about those."

The congregation has voted on the project on three occasions, each time affirming the project.

Construction will begin in three weeks and is expected to be completed by February of next year.
