WICHITA, Kan. (KAKE) -- A downtown Wichita street was closed for nearly two hours due to a man standing on the second story ledge of the parole office.

Around 1 p.m., officers responded to the report of a disturbance at the Kansas Department of Corrections parole office near Market and William. Police say a man inside the building jumped over the desk, broke out a window and crawled onto the second story ledge. The ledge is about 15 feet above the sidewalk.

The fire department put up a ladder, which he stood on as officers tried to talk him down, and as a precaution, police shut down Market Street in that area.

Just before 3 p.m., officers took the man into custody. He's being taken to an area hospital for treatment of a hand injury that happened when he broke the window.

Earlier, two police cruisers responding to the incident were involved in a crash nearby at 2nd and Broadway. Neither officer was hurt.
