Man Dies On Way To Hospital After Being Hit By Train

LAWRENCE, Kan. (WIBW-TV) -- Police in Lawrence say a male pedestrian has died after being hit by a freight train.

Sgt. Trent McKinley said Jerry Claypool, 51, of Lawrence was hit by a Burlington Northern Santa Fe train Tuesday afternoon.

6news Lawrence reports officers were called to the scene in the Burcham Park area around 2:35 p.m. Tuesday.

Claypool was pronounced dead while being transported to the hospital by ambulance.

Police say Claypool was last seen walking on the train tracks; there is no pedestrian or roadway crossing where the accident happened.

Personnel from BNSF and the Lawrence Police Department are investigating.
