WICHITA, Kan. (KAKE) — A Good Samaritan, dead after being hit by a semi on a highway in northeast Wichita, has been identified as former Winfield Police Chief Larry Dobbs.
It began around 3 p.m. Monday on K-96 near Rock Road. A pickup truck heading west lost a load of drywall on the road, and another driver stopped to pick up the debris from the road.
A westbound semi hauling rocks swerved into the median to avoid other cars that had stopped because of the debris, then hit the man who had stopped.
Dobbs was pronounced dead at the scene.
