TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) - Two people were arrested in connection with a purse theft at a Topeka Walmart.
25-year-old Thomas Robert McNeil was apprehended inside a residence in the 1100 Block of SW Lincoln Friday afternoon.
Officers were called to the parking lot of the Walmart store at 1501 SW Wanamaker just before 1:30 p.m. regarding a purse snatching.
The suspects were described as two white males who jumped into a stolen blue car with a loud muffler.
An off-duty police officer observed a car and individuals who matched the descriptions of the suspects just after 1:45 p.m. near 11th and Warren. She followed them from a safe distance and directed on-duty officers to investigate.
When uniforms tried to stop the car, the suspects pulled behind a house in the 1100 Block of SW Lincoln. The driver and passenger initiated a foot chase. The driver was immediately apprehended. The second suspect, McNeil, was apprehended a short time later inside the residence.
Both suspects were taken to the Law Enforcement Center for interviews.
The 1991 Ford Probe they were in was confirmed to be a stolen car.
The purse was recovered from a trash can behind 1128 SW MacVicar.
McNeil was transported to the Shawnee County Department of Corrects after an interview with detectives. The second suspect was released.
