HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (KAKE) -- The Lyrids Meteor Shower will peak tonight over North America.

NASA reports that the shower will be visible across North America as long as there isn't cloud cover. The shower has been visible for at least 2,000 years and is created by the earth passing through the debris trail of Comet C/1861 G1 Thatcher.

NASA says the best viewing will be between midnight and dawn with a peak of around 20 meteors per hour. The space agency recommends find a dark place away from city lights and to allow your eyes at least 30 to 45 minutes to adjust to the dark.

If you can't make it out to view the shower in person, NASA has a live video stream available from their Huntsville facilities that you can view here. or click the player below.
