MANHATTAN, Kan. (WIBW)-Jennifer is married to an U.S. Army Reserve Soldier. She loves spending time with her husband, however, times are about to change. She is in Manhattan to say farewell to her husband who will be deployed to Afghanistan. She feels a mix of emotions.
"A sense of pride a little, but apprehension, but pride," Jennifer said.
Jennifer is amongst several family members saying good-bye to their loved ones in the 538th Transportation Detachment. While singing, and jokes were apart of the ceremony, the realization of the mission they set out on is most apparent.
The 538th unit has been deployed previously in 2008 in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. Army commanders concluded the ceremony with some heartfelt words.
The 538th Transportation Detachment unit will be responsible for regulating the movement of support operations and cargo.
