Longtime KS National Guard Official Retires

TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) - A military career spanning more than three decades came to a close Friday.

A retirement ceremony was held for Col. Terry Fritz at the Nickell Armory.

Fritz enlisted in the Kansas National Guard in 1980 as a personnel specialist. He assumed the duties as the state's U.S. Property and Fiscal Officer in July 2004.

Fritz says not being around his coworkers every day will be a change.

"The guard is family. (That's the) hardest part about retiring," Fritz said. "All great people I'll miss. Relationships you make. Greatest bunch of people I've worked with in my life."

Fritz earned a bachelor's from Washburn University and an MBA from Liberty University. He was named Airman of the Year for Kansas in 1983.
