MANHATTAN, Kan. (WIBW) - A long-time public servant was recognized Sunday for his decades dedicated to the City of Manhattan, as well as the State of Kansas.

Friends and associates came together at the Kansas State University Alumni Center to honor former state senator Roger Reitz.

Reitz got his start in public service on the Manhattan-Ogden school board and for the last eight years served as senator for 22nd District.

In between, he also served as city commissioner and mayor of Manhattan, among many other roles.

Reitz was defeated in last year's primary election. He says he plans to take a breather for the time being.
