TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW)__ One local nursery is looking to lighten their load in order to spend more time with family.
Blackburn Nursery dates all the way back to 1936. The family business was passed down to generation after generation until the day came to make the tough decision.
"My kids both have graduated college and one has two good jobs and the other one's going to law school, so they don't have any desire to take over the business for us and it's just time for us to kind of slow down and pull back and go back to our roots." Shared owner Brett Blackburn.
Although they wont be entirely closing up shop, Brett says they will be closing the retail store but still will keep the greenhouse open five months out of the year. He says he and his wife want to spend more quality time together.
"We also have a concierge and landscape maintenance business that we take care of and so we'll continue to do all that, but we're just trying to cut down the amount of time we're at work everyday and trying to get a little bit of our life back and have a little more time for each-other." Stated Blackburn.
Working 7 days a week and putting in over 100 hours, the decision was made to down-size. The current location however is something that wont change.
"We're going to be at the same location and we're just going to lease or sell the retail store and then we've also been talking with an investment group and a developer and we're looking at maybe adding some things to the property and doing some things to better serve the neighborhood." Said Blackburn.
So if you are looking for something to spruce up your landscape or for some fun home items, their liquidation sale is going on till it's all gone.
"If you want a great bargain on anything related to lawn and garden, come on in because we have prices that will just blow anything away that they've seen before." Blackburn added.
With everything 50% off or more, these deals are too good to pass up.
