TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) - A local marine and author received a nice surprise Monday night.

Tad Pritchett gives presentations at he Topeka and Shawnee County Public Library, sharing his experiences as a marine during the Vietnam War.

Pritchett has given three presentations at the library, covering the Battle of the Bulge, followed by a lecture on the Cold War, and Monday's presentation on Vietnam.

Following Mondays presentation, Pritchett was awarded the Kansas Vietnam Veteran Medallion by fellow marines and Senator Laura Kelly.

Pritchett had no idea he was receiving the great honor.

"I am deeply humbled and literally, I receive this on behalf of all Vietnam vets," said Pritchett. "I mean, I'm no different than any of the rest. I'm very surprised and appreciative that I got this."

Pritchett says receiving the award reminded him of being back in the marines.
