SHAWNEE COUNTY, Kan. (WIBW-TV) A local conservation organization sponsored an event to get kids off the couch and into the great outdoors Saturday morning.

The Kaw Valley Quail and Upland Wildlife Federation hosted it's 7th Annual Youth Shoot Saturday morning at Shawnee State Lake.

Around 30 area youth got to participate in several activities including a clay shooting range, bow and arrow target shooting, and a rifle target range.

Professional hunting education instructors braved the windy day to assist with the event.

Fishing instructors were also on hand to help out with getting the youth interested in the great outdoors.

Organizers say the event helps get kids off the computer to see all of what the state of Kansas has to offer.
