WICHITA, Kan. (AP) -- A morning thunderstorm left a mess at one Wichita school.

Emergency crews were called to Rea Woodman Elementary, 2500 S. Hiram, after 9 a.m. after a lightning strike near the school caused a large tree branch to fall. The fallen branch broke at least seven windows on the school building.

USD 259 Spokesperson Susan Arensman said a man taking his grandchild to school was hit by falling bark. He declined medical treatment.

Arensman said classes are in session, but some students may be moved to other parts of the building while the damage is cleaned up.
