Topeka, Kan. (WIBW) - The man charged with killing a Seaman High School graduate has now been given a public defender.
In a meeting with Judge Cheryl Kingfisher Friday, 20-year old Dustin Leftwich was assigned a public defender.
Leftwich faces four counts stemming from Brenna Leann Morgart's death on May 25. He is being charged with first degree murder, aggravated kidnapping, aggravated battery, and giving false information about the collision.
Prosecutors also filed a fifth count, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, a vehicle, for a previous incident.
Morgart was struck by a car at 69th and Jennings Road. Shawnee County Sheriff's determined her body was moved away from the scene of the collision and left abandoned in a field near the 6600 Block of NW Huxman Road.
A criminal docket assignment to schedule a preliminary hearing is set for Thursday, June 7.
