KC Man Charged With Attempted Murder After Lawrence Shelter Stabbing

LAWRENCE, Kan. (WIBW) -- A 21 year-old man faces a charge of attempted first degree murder following a reported stabbing at a Lawrence shelter Thursday afternoon, according to the Lawrence Police Dept.

A police spokesperson said officers were called to the Lawrence Community Shelter, 3655 E. 25th Street, shortly after 3:00 p.m. When they there they found the victim had been stabbed in the neck while others there were holding the suspect back.

Police arrested the suspect, identified in jail records as Christopher McKay. Medical workers attended to the 46 year-old victim, who was taken to a nearby hospital where he needed surgery.

After going to the hospital for evaluation, the suspect was moved to Douglas County Jail.
