Lawrence Officer-Involved Shooting Investigation Winding Down

LAWRENCE, Kan. (WIBW) – "All investigative leads have been pursued." That's the word from the Lawrence Police Dept. (LPD) regarding its officer-involved shooting investigation. Now, all of the reports from each of the investigating agencies will be forwarded to the Douglas Co. District Attorney's Office.

Immediately after the shooting, the LPD says it asked the Douglas Co. Sheriff's Office for assistance investigating the incident. The next day, the Sheriff's Office turned to the Johnson Co. Sheriff's Office for further assistance.

Police say they responded to reports of shots fired near Harvard Road and Kasold Drive around 12:30 a.m. on Sunday, June 22, 2014. The first officer who arrived was told to go to a home at 1103 Kasold Dr.

When he got there, the officer reportedly determined that two people were inside and involved in a domestic dispute. One of them had a firearm and was shot by the officer.

A second officer arrived moments later. They called for medical assistance and began first aid. The shooting victim was flown to UMKC where he was treated and released.

The two officers have been placed on administrative leave. They were interviewed and have reportedly been fully cooperative with the investigation.
