LAWRENCE, Kan. (WIBW) – The Lawrence man shot along U.S. 59 south of town on Monday has been identified. The Douglas Co. Sheriff's Office said Skyler L. Workman is recovering at Stormont-Vail Hospital in Topeka, where the 24 year-old was flown after the shooting.
At this point, investigators do not believe the incident was a random act of violence, but they did note that they hadn't made a final determination. They did reassure drivers that traveling along Highway 59 is safe - day or night.
The sheriff's office said Workman was heading south on U.S. 59 around 11:00 p.m. Monday night was shot while driving near N1000 Road, south of Lawrence. After being shot, he called 911 and emergency responders took him via helicopter to Topeka.
The incident shut down a stretch of the highway in the area for several hours.
