Lawrence Apartment Building Evacuated For Fire

LAWRENCE, Kan. (WIBW) -- Apartments near 26th Street & Iowa in Lawrence were evacuated Tuesday morning after a two-alarm fire was reported in the building.

Authorities say six of the apartments in the SouthPointe Apartments and Park Villas, 2310 West 26th St., were affected by the fire, which was reported around 7:50 a.m. in the 2200 block of W. 26th Street. There was a lot of smoke reported in the area, but no official cause or origin of the fire has been determined.

One woman said she was overcome by smoke in an apartment, and a man leaped over her balcony to help her out of the building.

No other injuries were reported.
