TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) -- Tens of thousands of people gathered for this year's Spirit of Kansas at Lake Shawnee.

Young, old, furry and fun. People and pets of all ages enjoyed the 18th Annual Spirit of Kansas.

"Ever since we've been here we have had a good time. They've got arts and crafts and plenty of food and music and a car show," said Marilyn Kelly of Topeka.

The car show took center stage early in the day with a collection of cars from years past and there was an arts and craft show featuring face painting and plenty of hand made goods from hundreds of vendors. The festival provided good reason for plenty to jump into the patriotic spirit.

Marilyn, dressed from head to day in red, white and blue said, We like to get our nails done and feet done and outfits for this because it is just fun."

Nearly 10 hours worth of live music offered attendees a heavy dose of blues music. Whether it was someone's 18th year taking in all the spirit of Kansas had to offer or their first, most who enjoyed the free event could agree it was another success.
