TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW)-Dozens gathered for the 2013 80th Annual Fiesta Coronation Ball in the Sunflower Ballroom in the Maner Conference Center at the Kansas Expocentre.
Families, friends and members of the Our Lady of Guadalupe Parish awaited to hear who would win the coveted crown for the Fiesta Meixcana Royalty Saturday evening.
Each candidate walked along the stage one by one and then gave a speech on how their 3 month fundraising campaign leading up to this moment changed their lives.
"This experience has made me learn some things too," said Blaine Thompson, 2013 Fiesta King.
"It has taught me a lot about myself and it taught me I can stick to something," said Brianna Flores Stamps, Fiesta Princess, during her speech.
The Fiesta King and Queen are selected by who raises the most money for the Holy Family School. The audience applauded as the winners were crowned.
All the candidates raised nearly $120,000 to benefit the Our Lady of Guadalupe Parish.
Chelsea Garcia Newman was named 2013 Fiesta Queen and Blaine Thompson named 2013 Fiesta King.
"I wanted to able to give back to the community and the church that has taught me so many things," said Fiesta King, Blaine Thompson.
"This will give great education for this school," said Chelsea Garcia Newman, Fiesta Queen.
The King and Queen will reign over the week of the Fiesta and will cut the ribbon opening Fiesta on Tuesday at 5 p.m.
