TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) -- Some kids at school just can't wait for Thanksgiving day, which is just right around the corner.
Turkey, mashed potatoes, gravy, green beans, and a roll - the students at Jay Shideler Elementary School on 4948 SW Wanamaker Road chowed down to this delicious Thanksgiving lunch with parents and family.
The school's annual Thanksgiving meal always has a great turn out. This year the kitchen had their hands full, serving about a thousand meals to kids and their families. Usually the kitchen serves up about 350 meals a day.
The students and their families at their lunches together and enjoyed recess afterward.
Today got the students pumped up about the upcoming holiday and what they're thankful for.
Lucas Keck, a third grader, said he's thankful for his family.
"Thanksgiving is about being with your family and friends," Keck said.
Lucas's friend, Jason Brown, another third grader, said he's thankful for family too.
"We have a big family, so we have all kinds of family over. My aunt and uncle, my grandma and grandpa, and we have a big Thanksgiving dinner," Brown said.
