TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW)--More than 32 million people visited the sunflower state in 2011 and generated more than $8 billion in tourism expenditures.
That is according to a 2011 study released by the Kansas Department of Wildlife, Parks and Tourism.
The average visitor spent just over $235 in the state.
Tourism was the third largest industry in the state, responsible for directly and indirectly employing over 148,000 Kansan's.
Tourism was responsible for 4.4 percent of the total Kansas gross state product.
Tourism activity provided 14.4 percent of all state and local tax receipts.
