Kansas State Board Of Education Sends Letter To Governor

TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW)-- The State Board of Education is expressing concerns over what it sees as legislative proposals to infringe on its constitutional authority.

The board sent a letter to the governor and lawmakers. It's signed by Board Chairman Jana Shaver. The letter acknowledges the legislature's role in providing suitable funding for education,but asks that lawmakers -quote- respect the state board's constitutional
responsibility for the general supervision of schools, which includes accrediting schools, providing for academic standards and the licensure of teachers.

a House Committee is considering a measure banning current math and science standards.
