Kansas, Shawnee County Election Recap

TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW)-From new house members to familiar Senators, Kansans made a lot of decisions Tuesday night.

Senator Anthony Hensley continues an unprecedented 37th session in 2013. Congresswoman Lynn Jenkins will begin her third term in the Congressional 2nd district and one race in the Kansas House District 54 still seems just too close to call.

The amount of votes separating Incumbent Ann Mah and Ken Corbet according to the Secretary Of State's website is just 27 votes with over 2,000 provisional ballots still be counted in Shawnee County.

Even though the wait is making her anxious, Ann Mah is comfortable, saying, "I've got nothing to lose at this point and just hoping it'll go my way."

Election night also added former District 7 Councilman Republican Bob Archer to the open County Commission District 3 seat.

Well known throughout Kansas, Representative Lynn Jenkins certainly refused to take her third campaign for granted and come election night, her hard work paid off. "I'm humbled by the support of the 2nd district, it's a huge responsibility to solve the nations problems and I take it seriously to eliminate this debt."

Some winners weren't even necessarily a particular candidate, but instead a school district.

Residents in Shawnee County's school district 450 voted a resounding yes for Shawnee Heights Unified School District 450 to receive a $17.5 million bond issue for maintenance and expansion projects... 60% of the money will go towards maintenance while 40% will be used for construction including a new auditorium at Shawnee Heights High School and expansion of cafeterias at Berryton and Shawnee Heights Elementary schools.

The bond issue will raise property taxes annually $60 on homes above $100,000 dollars for twenty years.

In total, 6,022 voted yes compared to just 3,671 that voted no.
