TOPEKA, Kan. (AP) _ Kansas residents are invited to one of the state's most prominent historic venues to watch President Barack Obama's inauguration ceremony in a live broadcast from Washington.
The National Park Service is hosting events Monday at the Brown v. Board of Education National Historic Site in Topeka to observe both the inauguration and the Martin Luther King Jr. Day federal holiday.
The Brown v. Board historic site is housed in the old Monroe Elementary School, which at one time educated only black children. Monroe was at the center of the U.S. Supreme Court's 1954 decision declaring segregated schools unconstitutional.
In 2009, several hundred people gathered at the site to watch Obama take the oath of office for the start of his first term.
