Kansas National Guard Officer Joins Ranks Of Civilian Life

TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) - After more than 44 years in the military, an officer is ready to join the ranks of civilian life.

A retirement ceremony Wednesday honored Kansas Army National Guard Chief Warrant Officer 5 Terry D. Patton.

He enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps when he was 17-years old. In 1970, he was promoted to sergeant and, soon after, was sent on a mission to help evacuate U.S. citizens from Lebanon.

Patton joined the Kansas Army National Guard in 1973.

Patton says his fondest military memories are of all the people he met. He says he was "overwhelmed" by how many people turned out to show their support at his retirement event.

Patton says he plans to enjoy life and spend time with his family during his retirement.
