EUREKA, Kan. (KAKE) — A Kansas man is dead following a UTV accident in Greenwood County.
Just before 5 a.m. Wednesday, Greenwood County sheriff's deputies and EMS, along with Eureka Rescue responded to a report that a utility terrain vehicle had rolled over on someone.
Crews found the scene at R50 Road, about a quarter mile south of 175th Street. They found a Polaris Ranger UTV on top of a man, who was pronounced dead at the scene.
The victim has been identified as 44-year-old Larry R. Birkholz of Eureka.
Investigators believe Birkholz was southbound on R50 when he made a u-turn. He went up onto the embankment on the east side of the road and overturned, pinning Birkholz beneath it.
Deputies say Birholz wasn't wearing a safety restraint, and that the accident happened several hours before it was discovered.
