TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) - State Board of Education members heard a draft of new standards for history and social studies Wednesday.

The draft focuses on making the guidelines more user friendly for the teachers.

More than a year ago, a 35 person committee began reviewing the current standards in the subject. The standards will still be taught in the current sequence but changes could include integrating literacy skills into sections.

The board is expected to vote on final approval at its March meeting.
