TOPEKA, Kan. (AP) _ The Kansas Senate's majority leader says he
believes meetings Gov. Sam Brownback had at his official residence
with legislators were routine and that no proposed legislation was
discussed.
Majority Leader Jay Emler, a Lindsborg Republican, said Friday
that he saw Brownback's meetings with Republican members of
legislative committees as similar to social gatherings other
governors had with lawmakers at Cedar Crest.
And Emler told reporters during a news conference that no bills
were discussed. Emler was invited to two meetings in January with
the GOP governor.
Shawnee County District Attorney Chad Taylor has warned
Brownback and all legislators to preserve records and electronic
files that could be potential evidence. Taylor, a Democrat, is
investigating allegations that the gatherings violated the state's
open meetings law.
