TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) - Road rage could be to blame for an accident that had Highway 24 backed up Friday evening in North Topeka.

The Kansas Highway Patrol says a maroon passenger car cut off a Ford Taurus as they were merging into a construction area near the Goodyear plant west of Rochester Road.

The Taurus driver honked, prompting the maroon car to slam on the brakes, then put the vehicle in reverse and slam into the Taurus. The action caused a chain reaction involving five cars.

Authorities say the maroon car left the scene before they arrived.

The accident involved 17 people, two of whom were taken to the hospital with minor injuries.
