KHP Releases Christmas Holiday Activity Count

TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) - Five people lost their lives on Kansas highways over the long holiday weekend.

The Kansas Highway Patrol released its figures Thursday from the holiday counting period. It ran from 6 pm Friday, Dec. 21 through 11:59 pm Christmas day.

Five people were killed in four accidents. None of those was alcohol-related, but troopers did work four DUI-related crashes.

The Highway Patrol also made 21 DUI arrests; issued 1003 speeding tickets, with another 1205 warnings; wrote 294 tickets for seat belt and child restraint violations; and answered more than 1176 calls to assist motorists.
